Skate Park YouTube Video

Plum Creekers:

Here is a short video from the Janssen / Skate Park small group. This was filmed a couple of weeks ago by Christian Pruett when he checked out the park to see how to reach out to the kids. On that day, there were about 48 water bottles given out to around 30 kids around the park. Most of stayed around to listen to the Gospel being preached, and many had questions about our faith!

Please let us know what you think!

I was so excited when I saw that your group was going to go out and talk with these teens. However, after watching the video, I question the particular conversation that were chosen to be viewed. I can't help but wonder what someone who is new to Christ's love would have thought. Granted you were probably not able to show all the conversations that you had, which I am sure you did have some good ones. I just would have liked to seen more on how Christ's loves these kids no matter where they are in life and how we can get closer to knowing Him. I thought the conversations about the Commandments could have been taken negatively or too legalistic by someone who has never heard of Christ before. I am curious what others think about this video and what they might think if this was their first experience with a church.

Andrea:

Thanks for the comments and insight. The conversations I have been having with the kids have been great, discussing all sorts of topics along the way. And, although it may sound odd, this sort of challenging preaching and reaching out to them with free water has caused them to look at what I am doing with both words and actions with a great deal of respect. I have been thanked by many of them for taking the time to share the Gospel with them, and the very first time they saw me bringing two cases of water, one kid said, "No one has ever done anything as cool as this for us before!"

Many of these kids have already had experiences with churches and religions that have never made a dent. The first day I was there, one girl was proud about how she regularly attended Bible study and knew the names of all 66 books of the Bible, but she was swearing, smoking, and using language unbecoming of a young lady. Another boy thought that since he went to church every Sunday, he was fine with God, even though he was continuing in a lifestyle of sin. They had never looked at themselves in light of God's Law before, to understand why Jesus Christ truly loves them, and the Commandments opened their eyes.

When my small group first saw the larger video clips, they were tentative as well, but then they saw how these kids were reacting to the Gospel, and they thought that it was great. We're planning on our first weekend on June 7 at 2:00PM to give away food, drinks, and preach some more. We'll also be reaching out to them some days during the week after work, when more of the teenagers are there. Everyone is welcome to come!

All:

I was asked to disable this video temporarily while we are sorting out the legality of using video of minors. So far, it looks like we are in the clear because the video was taken on public property, which requires no permit or permission for usage, so long as it is not being used for advertising or commercial purposes. The law says we may use this video for informative and educational purposes, as we had been. Hopefully it will be back up shortly.

I'll be posting a great conversation later tonight I had with an adult at the skate park. Keep your eyes open for it!
